It was a Saturday morning. I woke up and knew immediately that something had changed. Something was different with my pregnancy and with my babies. It was to the point where the pain actually took my breath away. So, we called the doctor and he said to come down to the hospital. Treatment which is inappropriate for the condition or based on medical history Around 3 weeks ago, I had my final visit to the orthodontist for my braces. At the visit, they were removing the remaining parts of my bottom braces, which seems to be some metal or something like that behind the front four teeth (the four teeth between the bottom two canines) connecting them, and they were also removing the fillings they had put in place there that was used to hold the metal there (I think). During the part of the procedure when they were removing the fillings, they would ask me if the back of my teeth were smooth or rough after the drilling. The first time I told them it was rough, and after another drilling it felt smooth and so I told them so. The procedure ended there. However, before I left, I noticed that there was a bump on the right tooth of the four (the one left of my bottom right canine), and so I went back and told them about it. I told them that one of the tooth weren't really smooth as they were asking during the procedure, and that there was another teeth on the left side that also didn't seem smooth (it was my left canine, which isn't one of the four teeth that was being drilled). They first asked me if I was sure about it, as it might be the natural curves of my teeth, but I told them that only one of my teeth (of the four, though I might not have explicitly said this) stuck out at the bottom with a bump that way. So they went on to do some more drilling. I think they did a little drilling with one or two of those four teeth besides the right one I mentioned to them, and then they did the drilling with the right one. I then told them that on another left tooth, the bottom left canine, there seemed to be a bump, and I wasn't sure if something needs to be done about that one too. They would go on to do the drilling on that. Edit: To clarify, all of this happened on the same day, same visit. I didn't leave, after some time notice something was wrong, and then come back, I went back to the orthodontist before exiting the office. Pediatrician malpractice child injury lawyer attorney law firm encephalitis, meningitis, tuberculosis and vaccination errors or mistakes FL Jeff, I am so sorry to hear about your wife. I too had a similiar issue. i gave birth to a beautiful baby boy and the next day my lapband eroded through my esophagus and created a hole. I unerwent 5 surgeries to try and correct the whole. The doctors performed a surgery that had never been performed before in the US that ultimately saved my life. during my 1 1/2 month stay at the hospital i endured several drains to remove the infection that had been created. as well as nose tubes and breathing ventilators. My lung colapsed, i acquired a staff infection and a stage 3 ulcer during my stay. I also needed 4 blood transfusions due to low blood levels. when i was finally released i had a PIK line in my arm for antibiotics and feeding as i could not consume any food or liguids for approx 3 months. I WAS a healthy 35 year old woman and at one point down to 104 lbs because of what had happened I missed out on the first two months of my baby because of my lap band!!! I would never recomend a lapband to any one. I am so sorry that your wife has lost her life because of a lapband!! When a family member dies, it is a heartbreaking time for the rest of the family. That is made especially true if they are not permitted to honor the memory of their loved one in accordance with their traditions and religious beliefs. In the case of New York, there are laws that are in place to ensure that when a loved one dies, they are placed in a situation that will ensure that every effort is made to locate the next of kin and return the body to them for burial. These laws refer to sepulcher. Sepulcher is the right of a family to inter their kin in the manner that they deem appropriate. It is a recognized right in the state of New York, but that is not the way that it was always done. She wasnt feeling well and we assumed she was coming down with the flu. When she was taken by ambulance, we were advised she had a sudden onset of diabetes. Her Blood Sugar was 1300. They kept her in the emergency room until a room in ICU became available. While in the ER,slowly her sugar level started to drop. It got down to 333 when she was finally admitted to ICU. While there, a nurse kept giving her insulin that was'nt injected properly. Her arm was black and blue and you can see the insulin went everywhere except her vein. We were able to feel the liquid (insulin) in her arm. It was burning her or something because she kept moving her arm like it was uncomfortable. She couldnt talk, and she was incoherant but clearly something was wrong with her. My aunt noticed the nurse giving her insulin in the arm that was already black and blue. She didnt feel right about the nurse not finding another place to give her insulin so she went down the hall and got another nurse who happened to be a phlebotomist. That nurse was shocked at what he saw and advised my aunt she (nurse)didnt know what she was doing and she should've got help if she couldnt find a vein before continously poking her in a now sensative area. He stated the new nurse would be on shift soon and could better care for her because she knows what sheis doing. the new shift was coming on and while they were doing their rounds, the night nurses leaving were going back and forth with the new shift saying they should've had her incubated because her condition was serious. While they were bickering about who should've had her incubated, she went into cardiac arrest. My mother was admitted approx 7pm 10/15/2011 and @ 7:49am 10/16, she was gone, passed away when she went into cardiac arrest. Her Blood sugar rose again to 714. She had no vital monitors on her. not even the BP machine mind you she is in ICU. She was 49 and gone just like that. The docs in ER advised the worst case scenario would be she'd have to take insulin for life and to learn about diabetes so we can know when she's having a reaction. She never got a chance to tell us why her arm was in the condition it was in. She didnt even know what was going on with her body(diabetes. I still think about this daily and still want answers because I'm not at peace with her death. I'm currently seeking a lawyer who can help me get answers if it's not too late. I can now talk about this without breaking down. I'm sorry to hear about the condition Ms Lora is in. My prayers are with her and her family and friends. $5.35 million settlement against a hospital and hospital staff for failure to diagnose postpartum cardiomyopathy in an 18-year-old woman who had just had her first child one month earlier.
